I know this seems a bit petty and that the topic has been raised on multiple occasions, but what are your guys views on people cantering around the warm up area like they own the place?
My yard has a jumping competition every Thursday from around May to August and I take in some of the riding school ponies. Tonight was my second night on Sam, a young 16.2hh gelding. He gets extremely excited around strange horses and was jogging around the place like a lunatic. Other riders could clearly see he was being a difficult mount, but cantered next to him anyways which made him take off and buck around the small area we had. They also expected you to stop, even if you were cantering and they were walking. This spoiled my evening as he wasn't being himself, and I'm not the most confident rider so I couldn't do higher classes, which I enjoy more. After one girl almost got their horse kicked in the head after coming too close, I had to go into the arena which he is not fond of, and just switched off. But I needed him to be okay as I hadn't jumped my class yet. Other riders also, when I was going to the practice jump cantered up behind me, overtook me and then jumped ahead of me! It's extremely rude and also puts off Sam which doesn't help my confidence as I have low confidence on him already.
I'm tempted to put a red ribbon in Sam's tail which will stop people coming close, but I'm afraid his owner wont let me. What is everyone else's views on this?

You should explain the situation to the owner and ask if you may do so and that it may help improve their horses performance I myself do not compete yet and have never been riding in an actual "stable" per say but thats what i think you should do

Sound's like people need to learn some respect.
I had this happen once at a rodeo when warming up my at the time new mustang mare. Someone decided to bring their big ol warmblood running up beside my poor mare, needless to say I didn't get to go into my western pleasure class that night due to that moron's horse spooking my mare to the point she ran us into a fence.
Maybe discuss what happend with the owner ans ee if she will allow the red ribbon? It sounds like it might help a lot until the horse is used tot he crowded area's

Reapper- I'm seriously considering this, as I'm planning on taking Sam on loan and want to get out to the late shows this year. None of which is possible if he doesn't get better. Rogue- It's a shame that happened to you! Some people just think that since their horse is fine, everyone elses will be too. I'm planning on bringing red ribbon out this thursday and seeing what she says

Just thought I'd update you. I didn't put a ribbon in his tail and just took him straight to the arena and he's gotten worse. I've given up on him(and riding) because my confidence riding is so low since I've nearly fallen off every horse I have ridden for the past month or so.
So I guess that's it really... Last ride ends on a bad one...
